John A. “Tony” Johansing, President of Cass & Johansing

Starting his career in 1967 with Reliance Insurance Company in San Francisco, Tony became part of his family’s third generation in the insurance industry. Two and a half years later, he joined Cass & Johansing, founded by his grandfather, Harry G. Johansing and Louis Cass in 1915.

Under the direction of his father, Paul and uncle, Harry, he continued to build the Cass & Johansing reputation of innovative risk management solutions for various industries.

Over the past four decades, Tony has worked in the Personal Insurance, Marine, Commercial Property and Casualty, Life & Health and Sales on the carrier and broker side. He was in the first class to receive the Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation in Southern California from The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research. Along with serving on the Agency Council Boards for Reliance Insurance Companies and Central Mutual Company, he also served on the Professional Insurance Agents Educational Committee, now known as Insurance Brokers and Agents (IBA West). He loves the insurance biz – “…getting into others’ businesses.”

Tony currently serves on the finance advisory board at Maryvale and board of directors at Impact Drug & Alcohol Treatment Center. He has served on the boards of R.M. Pyles Boys Camp and Desert Refuge for Peace Officers.

He enjoys spending time on the water, both fly fishing and sailing. Tony is an active member of Pasadena Casting Club and Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club. He is also a docent at Planes of Fame Air Museum at Chino Airport and a weekly volunteer at City of Hope. Tony resides in Altadena with his wife of over 50 years, Cathy. Together, they have 8 children and 11 grandchildren
